The trend from on premise data centers to public cloud has been underway for years, driving the growth of white box servers and switches as they met the Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) requirements of the public cloud. However, switches that are perfect for the cloud giants are sub-optimal for On Premise clouds and for Micro Data Centers used with Edge Computing. The features, the speeds, and the physical form factors needed for these three distinct types of data centers differ today and will only diverge more over time.
Ethernet switch form factors are diverging to provide an optimized SWaP for each of these types of data centers:
- On Premise Cloud (HCI)
- Public Cloud
- Edge Computing (Micro Data Centers)
