Network performance monitoring is a key capability for managing the health and efficiency of a large-scale network. Performance measurement and monitoring protocols have been deployed for over two decades, but the fast evolution of high-speed data center networks has raised the need for accurate and scalable measurement that cannot be provided by the traditional measurement methods, leading to several new network telemetry approaches. This talk will present a short overview of the evolution of network telemetry protocols from a chip vendor’s perspective. We will discuss the challenges, and introduce Marvell’s unique approach to accurate network measurement and monitoring.
