Addressing Diversity in Data Center Networks - Presented by Marvell
Data Centers are evolving in many directions, and the requirements from the DC networking infrastructure are creating diversification . The Mega Scale Data Centers are desperately looking to increase the throughput of each switch node with reduced power and one-size-fits-all equipment. Enterprise and Private data centers are fine with lower throughput switches and require a more optimized solution for the smaller network scale. In parallel, new emerging Edge Data Centers, are looking for smaller form factors equipment, high capacity, and very high availability. These sometimes conflicting requirements call for a different view of the network infrastructure building blocks and a fresh approach to development of the IC’s that are in the heart of switches, compute and storage nodes. We’ll examine the different types of DC, and present end to end solutions that addresses the diversified Data Center requirements. We’ll look under the hood of the equipment that comprises DC infrastructure and demonstrate how new building blocks enable system vendors and cloud providers to build a more optimized solution for their unique needs and requirements.

The Edge Computing Trend and How That’s Causing Switch Form Factors to Diverge - Presented by Mellanox
The trend from on premise data centers to public cloud has been underway for years, driving the growth of white box servers and switches as they met the Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) requirements of the public cloud.  However, switches that are perfect for the cloud giants are sub-optimal for On Premise clouds and for Micro Data Centers used with Edge Computing.   The features, the speeds, and the physical form factors needed for these three distinct types of data centers differ today and will only diverge more over time.
